Scene one

Stage opens with the king and his three sons He is addressing them on an important issue. Adedayo is the eldest son followed by Adejare while Adebayo is the younger son.

Adedayo: Father may you live longer than your ancestors. 

Together: Amen

Adedayo: Father you called us for an important meeting. I hope all is well. 

King: My sons, the reason why I called you hear is so that all will be well. Our elders have a saying that there cannot be a smoke without a fire. 

Adebayo, Adejare and Adedayo nods their heading response

King: I would be going on a journey to the next town for an urgent meeting and I will be given you an assignment to do while I am away.(he brings out three envelope with money inside and gives it to the all of them.)

Adebayo: What are we to do with this father?

King: Good question. Adedayo the envelope with you contains 3000 naira. Adejare the envelope with you contains 2000 naira. Adebayo, your envelope contains 1000 naira. Use the money to invest in something worthwhile and when I come back after one week, you will give detailed account of what you did with the money. Is that understood?

Together: Yes father

Adedayo: I promise to make good use of the resources given to me. 

Father: What about you Adebayo and Adejare?

Adebayo: I will try my best father.

Adejare: I will make you proud

King: Alright sons. I will be on way. Good luck to you both.

Together: Safe journey father.

Curtain closes as the king walks out while the three sons remain

Adebayo: What rubbish. He gave me one thousand naira while he gave you 3000 naira. (Hisses)

Adedayo: Don’t talk like that. It is not in how much you are given but how well you can make use of what you are given.

Adebayo: will you shut your mouth? What will I use this trash to do? Ohhhh! He gave you higher money because you’re older than me, nonsense. I will keep the money safe till he returns. I am out of here(he stands up to leave)

Adebayo: Ahhhhhh, Father will not be happy if you do this. Just do your best I make use of what he gave you. Don’t say I did not advise you o

Adejare: Just leave him alone. Body GI soon tell am

They leave the stage as curtain falls.

Scene two

After one week

The king returns and calls his sons to give account of what they used his money to do.

King: Adedayo, what report do you have about the money given to you?

Adedayo: Father, I used the money to invest in business and I got double which is 6000 naira. Here is the money. 

King: That’s impressive. You can have   the money as your reward with an extra twenty thousand. (He brings out an envelope and gives it to him.)

Adedayo: Thank you father.

King: You deserve even more(turns to Adejare) what is your report Adejare?

Adejare: Well, I invested the money and I got double too which is 4000 naira.

King: That’s impressive. You can have   the money as your reward with an extra twenty thousand. (He brings out an envelope and gives it to him.)

Adejare: Thank you father

King: You deserve even more(turns to Adejare) what is your report Adebayo?

Adebayo(scratch his head) ehmmm…..I was afraid the money will not be enough so I kept the money in a safe place till you return. I’m sorry father

King: You wicked son. At least you would have made attempt to use the resources given to you before complaining. Give me the money.(he gives his father the money and the father gives it to Adedayo.)

Adedayo: Thank you much father. 

King: You are welcome. As for you, Ade bayo here is my judgement for you. Henceforth, you will become a servant in the palace till I notice you have changed. You do not deserve to be my son. Get out of my sight now

Adebayo: (crying)Father, I am sorry. I promise to always obey you from now on. Adedayo, please help me beg father

The king leaves the stage 

Adedayo: (hisses and mocks Adebayo) Didn’t I advise or warn you? Now you reaping the consequences of your foolish decision. Enjoy your time as a servant. Bye….

Adejare: Servant, kindly get my clothes in my room and wash it now(they laugh loud at Adebayo)

Adedayo and Adejare leaves the stage as Adebayo keeps crying like a baby as light fades.
