THE YAM AND THE MORTAR

On the night of the new year, we were outside the house watching  how papa was pounding the yam in the mortar with the whole of his strength.  We were planning to eat pounded yam and okro soup that new year night.  He really wanted the pounded yam to be smooth as it is his best food.

Turn by turn he gave us the pestle to pound the yam. I watched with folded arms as he instructed my younger brothers on how to pound the yam. When it got to my turn, i did it perfectly though he still corrected me a little.

He finished the pounding and served the food.  We ate it with great joy.  While we were pounding,  my mind was telling me something  else.

The more we pounded, the more it became smoother and when he added water to it,  it became even more smoother.  And when he served it,  it was fine and ready to eat. This is the exact way God treats us but in this case he is not pounding us.

Just like a potter,  he is moulding you until you are smooth enough and ready to be used.  He is also adding water to make you more smooth.

Because  you are not there yet does not mean you will not get there.  He is using your mistakes and past experiences tob shape you before you get there.  Only God knows when you will finally  be ready for use.

As you wait,  invest in yourself and meet people that can impact your life positively.  No man is an island of knowledge.  You will definately get there.
